President of the State of Israel
|Shimon Peres was born in 1923 in Belorussia and immigrated with his family in 1934.|
Peres was a vice-president of the International Socialistic one; ex-president of the Labour Party and architect of the Agreements of Oslo of 1994, by what it was rewarded (together with Itzjak Rabín and Yasser Arafat) with the Nobel Prize of the Peace.
He studied in the School of Agriculture of Ben Shemen and he was one of the founders of the Kibbutz Alumot in the Vale of the Jordan. It has activated in politics from 16 years and he was an elect secretary of the Labour Youth movement in 1943.
During the War of Independence of Israel (1947-48), Peres was responsible for the buy of armaments and the enlistamiento of forces, and in 1948 he was nominated the director of the naval services. In 1949, it directed the delegation of procuramiento of the Defense Department in the United States, and during his demurrage there he studied in the School of Social researches of New York and in the University of Harvard.
Peres was nominated a general deputy director of the Defense Department (1952-53) and later general manager (1953-59). It reorganized the Defense Department, impelled the establishment of the Air industries and the nuclear project of Israel, and encouraged the special relations with France. He was the key man in the planeación of the Campaign of the Sinai in 1956.
Peres has been a member of the Knéset from 1959 and it served like vice-minister of Defense (1959-65). In 1965 it left the Party Mapai and he was an elect General Secretary of Rafi (the list of workpeople of Israel), which later joined with Mapai to form the Labour Party of Israel.
Peres was nominated the Minister of Immigrants' Absorption (1969) and later it served like the Minister of Transport and Communications (1970-74). In 1974 he was nominated the Minister of Information and later Minister of Defence (1974-77). The principal achievements of his cadenza as Minister of Defence were the signature of the Temporary Agreement with Egypt (1975), the Operation Entebbe (1976) and the frontier arrangements with The Lebanon.
In 1977 Peres was an elect president of the Labour Alignment. In 1984 there formed a government of National Unit, in which he acted first as a Prime minister (1984-86) and then like the Vicefirst Minister and the Secretary of State (1986-88). During his tenancy like Prime minister, Israel moved back from the Lebanon (1985) and a plan of economic stabilization was implemented.
In the following Government of National Unit (1988-90), Peres he was the Vicefirst Minister and the Minister of Finance. In 1990-92 he was a leader of the opposition in the Knéset.
In July, 1992, Peres was nominated the Secretary of State.
On November 5, 1995, after the murder of the prime minister Itzjak Rabín, it assumed the Prime minister charge in functions and Minister of Defence, up to the general elections realized in May, 1996.
From 1996 until 1999 it served like member of the Commission of Foreign Matters and Defense of the Knéset.
From July, 1999 until March, 2001 it served like the Minister of Regional cooperation, and from March, 2001 until October, 2002 like the Secretary of State and the Vicefirst Minister.
Peres has published books in Hebrew, French and English on varied topics. Shimón Peres is a member of the Knéset and it is active in the Center Peres of the Peace that was established in his honor. It is married and father of three. Shimon Peres is the president of Israel.
